Skogafoss #1

Skogafoss waterfall was one of the more impressive sights we visited during out trip to Iceland earlier this year. It is also extremely popular and I waited nearly an hour to capture it tourist free.

I photographed it mid-afternoon as we made our way to Fludir. As the main purpose of the trip was not photography it was never going to be a sunrise or sunset shot and I always had black and white in the back of my mind.

From the car park it was a short walk across sheet ice but with yaktrax on it was a breeze. It was then a case of checking out some different compositions where I could get the stream leading you up to the falls.

Once I had my composition I tried a number of shutter speeds until I had the smoothness in the water that I was looking for... and then it was a case of waiting until I didn't have any tourists in the shot.

I think it was worth the wait.
