From Portencross Pier

On Saturday morning I ventured out for what will more than likely to be the final images I’ll shoot in 2018.

Instead of heading east for sunrise I made my way to Portencross on the west coast with a view to shooting the old pier from where you can view Arran… on a good day!

I arrived well before sunrise and the Scottish weather didn’t disappoint - it was dreich, the wind was wild and the waves were crashing against the rocks. I spent quite some time exploring the area trying to find a potential composition that I would be able to take 1. safely and 2. without getting drenched!

The above shot was probably the last area I spent scouting having first tried to find a shot further along the coast but being there myself I didn’t feel comfortable getting too close to the waters edge. There are a few compositions I would like to try if the conditions were calmer.

Sunrise wasn’t amounting to much but just as I was setting up this shot a little colour and light appeared in the sky and I was able to capture the shot above.

This wasn’t the shot I thought I would come away with but it does reflect the conditions and reminds me of the standing on the rock with the remote shutter control in one hand trying to stay upright.
