The Monastery Hummingbird

This photograph was taken at the Monastery of Saint Catherine in Arequipa, Peru and I pay special thanks to the hummingbird for posing so elegantly for me.

Built in 1579, it is like a city within a city. There are a small number of nuns still living within the walls but in a newer complex which was built in the 1960s following a series of earthquakes. It was at this time that the rest of the monastery was opened up to the public.
