#myweeklyphoneimage
I don’t work quickly with my images, it can be some time between taking them an publishing them. I am keen to share more work albeit this is something I say every year.
This year I have decided to take, edit and share an image every week from my phone. It will see me photographing different subjects which I hope will be both interesting and beneficial to my work.
More importantly it is a realistic goal.

Trying to support #sharemondays, and also to share more work on a regular basis.

A couple of lovely mornings marching around in the snow with a ice cold wind blowing in the face. Given the speed at which I process work taken on the camera, I’m going to share more pictures taken on my phone. I do like good Field Lines.

We all know the feeling. Waiting. Waiting. Wondering when it will arrive, if at all. This year I have decided to create and share an image every week on my phone. A realistic goal. It will see me photographing different subjects which will be both interesting and beneficial to my work and I will share them using the tag #myweeklyphoneimage

Limited photography opportunities as I spent the week away with work and was delayed returning twice due to storms… bit of a long one! I did shoot other scenes but when I went to work on them they just didn’t work in a way I had envisaged. Here is this weeks shot and I suspect not the last I will take of this theme as I do enjoy the clinical lines of a building meeting the sky.

I didn’t get out anywhere with the camera with but I am ontinuing with my aim of taking and sharing a phone image every week. It is definitely a week for photographing something very different to what I normally would, but that was also going to be the case. It is an interesting part of this challenge, if you can call it that, as it forces me to think out of the box to get an image which still appeals to me eye, but yet connects to what I would ordinarily shoot.

Continuing the weekly aim, no camera outings again but the phone to hand. Another three days on the road with work and a misty winters morning watching the world pass by.

Two weeks where I’m not traveling with work, and I’m down in London at the weekend. Another week, another travel related photograph… I really need to try something different! Time for a seat.

Not on the road last week but one thing and another along with social commitments meant yet another cameraless week. I did remember to try and make an image on my phone, quite liking the result, might try again.

This weeks #myweeklyphoneimage was very last minute and rushed, no real opportunity last week. I was looking at another shot following a similar theme to last week, but went with this which follows a theme last month, and one I will explore more.

Two months in and #myweeklyphoneimage has kept my interest and brain thinking photography, as without it I have basically done nothing. I am enjoying looking up as much as I am looking down, the bold shapes set against and clear or interesting sky, sometimes with a little light.

I managed to get to the coast last week and grabbed a few potential shots on the phone, this is the one I’ve selected for #myweeklyphoneimage. It’s different from what I would normally do but I liked the feeling of movement in the water and the balance of tones.

The shadows and shapes really caught my eye last week on the morning walk to the office. Cold mornings make for a lovely start to the day and I need to start varying my route to explore more opportunities.

This week I was going round in circles trying to get #myweeklyphoneimage (sorry for the terrible pun). I really like the bright bands of light and reflections through the levels as you get to the sky, the circular motion narrowing as you reach the top.

A bitterly cold easterly wind on Saturday morning down on the coast but it was lovely to be standing with the camera enjoying the sunrise and photographing a new location. I grabbed a few shots on phone exploring compositions and have settled on this for #myweeklyphoneimage.

Sitting writing this after a couple of wonderful days exploring the hills, clear blue skies and sunshine with a chilling wind, contemplating #myweeklyphoneimage. As many will know, I enjoy structures in the landscape, fences, telegraph poles, etc, and the ski lift chairs really caught my attention. This one was particularly appealed with the thick upright post and the cables running across the sky.

Having been away for the last week I naturally ended up with a difficult choice to make for #myweeklyphoneimage with a larger selection than normal. It was lovely to walk along the huge, largely deserted beaches, leaving only a trail of footprints behind.

Power Reflections I don’t generally title #myweeklyphoneimage but I felt this title worked well for the subject matter. This shot has a different feel from a lot of work I normally shoot but the simplicity caught my eye.

It was a challenge this week, despite taking several images over the weekend none of them worked well as mono edits, at least not using the phone. The scenes felt busy, too much contrasty detail, and just not the simplicity I like. However, that is all part of #myweeklyphoneimage.

A walk around town in the midday sun for my #weeklyphoneimage. This was a location I had previously walked past a few months ago and felt it would have potential with some nice shadows but an interesting variety of shapes and materials.

A tough decision this week for #myweeklyphoneimage but I settled on this shot of one island from another. My phone editing skills are not quite at the level I would like for this shot but am getting better.

A very different subject matter for me this week but since starting #myweeklyphoneimage I am trying and forcing myself to look a different subject matter. I’ve watched my wife’s hostas growth and love the shapes of the leaves, particularly the way they hold the droplets of water.

This week #myweeklyphoneimage was captured on the go, drawn to simple bold lines and letters, but also the lovely contrast and minimalist look when black and white.

My weekly commute has been a significant contributor to #myweeklyphoneimage and it is giving me ideas for potential projects away from the work that traditionally appeals to me. This week the light and contrast of this building and the opportunity to darken the majority of the image to bring out the contrast from the windows.

Looking out at 36,000 feet to a large pillow of clouds. A different perspective for #myweeklyphoneimage this week, harder than one thinks to get a shot in the sky, looking through a small window, whilst moving quicker than you imagine.

Was I a little lazy this week for #myweeklyphoneimage? Perhaps with the subject matter, but I felt it worked well in the conditions and with the finished image I had in mine. I did look at other compositions but couldn’t get it to work as corners of other buildings and trees began to get in the way.

A stinking cold at the end of last week and the weekend really restricted opportunities but I was taking a different route home and the light on the panels of this building really caught my eye.

I’ve shot this before albeit in very different conditions. However, it’s a composition I like with bold shapes and elements making up the shot. To some it may look squint but I promise it is straight.

Watching the sun set after a long but easy journey to Cardigan Bay for the start of a new adventure.

Many miles of coastline last week, more photographs taken than I expected, and for my weekly phone image I settled on this shot. For me, the lovely shape of the land, the contrast between land water and sky, and the atmosphere from the mist (it was more like drizzle!).

While many would share the colour version of this incredible sunset, I think it works really well in black and white, the dark sky and beautiful light on the grasses. An easy choice for my weekly phone image.

Rarely do I include people in my photography but I think that on this occasion it merits it and extends the variety of subject matter I have shot as part of my weekly phone image project. I have many shots of this opening of the tent with people walking in and out but it was this shot which worked the best.

Another week and another different subject matter for my weekly phone image. As I haven’t been out with my camera I’m always on the lookout for interesting subjects, although often leave it late in the week.

Saturday evening and a little panic set in as I hadn’t taken a single shot with my phone all week. Forecast for Sunday was blue skies and sunshine so I went for an early morning, not sunrise, walk into the City Centre with a couple of locations in mind that might worth with light, shadows and contrast. This wasn’t one of those locations but a composition I had passed previously and had tried to make something work. I think in these conditions it works well and the graffiti pops out when you convert to black and white.

This week I was better organised and I knew the shot I wanted to capture having taken it the weekend before. It didn’t rely on any particular lighting which made it a little easier. Patterns and markings are definitely a theme from my weekly phone image, the bold shapes capture my attention and they (can) work particularly well in monochrome. Whilst I could have used the shot I had taken the week before, that would have been cheating, but it’s also a reminder why I take other shots during the week to test out ideas.

A week exploring a new area of Scotland produced a few options for my weekly phone image, the lighthouse staircase winning.
