Escapism
I believe that everyone needs some from the day job and for several years now for me it has been photography which I always thought was about being outdoors, standing on a beautiful beach or up the side of a hill.
Over the last few years that seems to be a small part of it and it has developed to be more than that with evenings and weekends spent in front of a screen or mic.
However, it has become more rewarding and allowed me to engage with organisations and people from around the world.
The last few months have been busy and I feel I have accomplished a lot without actually taking photographs, and a lot is all coming to completion around the same time.
Evenings spent to redesign and update my website which is now live with new work.
Preparing a new talk, Not Just A Single Photograph, about my work to give to organisations, societies and clubs around the UK in person and on zoom.
Planning and recording new episodes of my podcast which I’ve run for 5 years and published over 160 episodes reaching thousands of people.
And very important to me, supporting those in need. I’ve raised over £4,000 for charities in the last 3 years and this year I continue to do so with a donation from every print sale and talk I give.
I fit this all around my work commitments and personal life but I do schedule time away from it to allow myself to come back to photography feeling refreshed and motivated.
So much for just taking photographs.
