Spring Snow

This year, winter photography has been largely non-existent so when I was up in the Cairngorms at the beginning of May I was pleasantly surprised to see an unexpected dusting of snow overnight.

Even if it was only a dusting it was nice to have an opportunity to shoot some snow so I took a little stroll into a nearby woodland hoping to get some winter shots in spring.

Woodland photography is something that I have long admired but struggled to produce any good images myself. I’m very much of the view if you don’t succeed at first then try again… and again and again and again.

With light snow starting to fall this helped diffuse the background and I felt I was beginning to see potential shots and see the wood from the trees (excuse the pun). It was just a pity that it cleared up as quickly as it started.

Looking back through the shots there are a couple I’m quite happy with but more importantly it has given me a bit of encouragement to head back into the woods when the conditions are good. If only we got as much mist in Scotland as other parts of the UK appear to get!
